GENERAL
We have just had some great parent input and created a new committee!! So read on, and contact us if you are interested in helping out.

Since not-for-profit groups are, by their definition, groups that are not allowed to make a profit, many people wonder why they must raise money at all. In fact, fundraising is often the only way that not-for-profit groups have of gaining the money needed to organise the programs and events, and to pay the bills that every P & C has such as insurance and wages for bookkeepers, etc.

Fundraising can help raise awareness through newspapers or newsletters and it ultimately assists the people that the group is hoping to help. For example, a women’s shelter will need money for a shelter space, money for food and board for the women, and money for programs such as education and job training for the women who visit the center.

The costs of even a small women’s centre can be enormous, and fundraising is usually the only way to get this money. All not-for-profit groups need some money in order to really do good, and this is where fundraising comes in.

The JHSS P & C gives $30,000.00 to the school every year for general running costs and to provide those extra opportunities to enhance the students' education. We also have to stock and staff the Tuckshop and OSHC, as well as pay for liability insurance, account keeping fees, functions, events and stalls, etc.

So it is essential that enough funds are raised to not only cover the expenses of raising the funds, but to supply the opportunities and events that the funds are being raised for!

To do this we have the following events you may know:

• Cake, Mothers and Fathers Day Stalls
• Tuckshop
• Fetes
• Swimming Carnivals
• Cross Country/Fun Runs
• Sausage Sizzles
• "Drives" (health bars, cookie dough, etc)
• Games and Raffles
• Music Concerts

And others you may not:

• Yearly donation from parents
• Discos
• Hall Hire
• Tennis Court Hire
• Uniform Shop
• Outside School Hours Care
• Trivia Nights
• Art Shows
• Other opportunities like Family Photo sittings, buying your child's art work, book and clothing labels

But none of these things can happen without organisation, community support and of course volunteers. A job shared is a job halved, so grab a friend and let us know that you want to help your child succeed. Even if you don't know what to do, or what you can do, we can let you know when the next opportunity comes up.
